Post originally published July 2014; updated April 2024.

Hot summer evenings call for a frozen beverage like a margarita. Rather than keeping some margarita mix on hand, I like to switch things up and make margaritas using whole fruit like mango. This easy frozen mango margarita is an absolute favorite cocktail of mine since you only need a couple ingredients.

Why You’ll Love this Recipe

  • Just 5 ingredients!
  • Uses frozen mangoes so you can make this recipe any time of year, not just when mangoes are in season.
  • Easily adaptable for different flavor variations. (See below for a few suggestions!)
  • Naturally sweetened with just frozen mango.

Ingredients for Frozen Mango Margaritas

  • Frozen Mango: chopped frozen mango makes this delicious margarita extra icy and thick kind of like a frosty.
  • Lime: use fresh squeezed lime juice for this margarita. Bottled lime juice just doesn’t taste as fresh and bright as fresh squeezed.
  • Silver Tequila: use silver/blanco tequila for this homemade mango margarita recipe.
  • Triple Sec: A type of orange liqueur that is used in margaritas. Cointreau is a common/popular brand of triple sec often used for margaritas. Grand marnier is also a good option.

How to Make a Frozen Mango Margarita

Blend up the Margarita: Add tequila, triple sec, frozen mango, lime juice, and ice to a high-speed blender. Blend on high until smooth.

Prepare the Glasses & Serve: Use a cut lime and rub along the rim of 2 glasses. Add margarita salt to a small plate and roll the rim in the salt to coat. Pour margaritas into salted glasses and garnish with mint and sliced lime to serve.

Mango Margarita Variations

  • Spicy Mango Margaritas: Pour the tequila you’ll need for this recipe into a glass jar and add a few slices of jalapeño. Store in the fridge for a couple hours before making these margaritas for a spicy kick. Just strain the jalapeños out of the tequila before pureeing!
  • Chili Lime Mango Margaritas: Add some Tajin or chili lime seasoning to the margarita salt before adding it to your glasses for a delicious chili kick with each sip of this margarita.
  • Strawberry Mango Margaritas: Reduce the frozen mango in the recipe to 1 cup and add 1 cup of frozen strawberries. Puree and serve!
  • Non Alcoholic: use 1/4 cup orange juice in place of the triple sec and use a non-alcoholic tequila OR a spash of club soda or sparkling water.

Health Benefits of Mango

Mangoes are native to India and Southeast Asia where they have been cultivated for over 5000 years. Not only are mangoes delicious, but they are packed with nutrition as well.

  • One serving of mango (3/4 cup) provides 50% of your daily needs for vitamin C.
  • Mangoes are a good source of folate and copper.
  • Like most fruits and vegetables, mangoes are loaded with polyphenols like beta-carotene and anthocyanins. These bioactive compounds are anti-inflammatory and may help reduce the risk of chronic disease like cancer or heart disease.

Ingredients

  • 3 ounces silver tequila
  • 2 ounces triple sec
  • 2 cups frozen mango
  • 2 limes, juiced
  • 1 cup ice

Instructions

  • Add tequila, triple sec, frozen mango, lime juice, and ice to a blender. Blend on high until smooth.
  • Use a cut lime and rub along the rim of 2 glasses. Add margarita salt to a small plate and roll the rim in the salt to coat. Pour margaritas into salted glasses and garnish with mint and sliced lime to serve.

Notes

  • Adjust ice if you want a less frosty margarita or let the ingredients blend longer so they defrost and make a thinner cocktail.
  • Non Alcoholic: use 1/4 cup orange juice in place of the triple sec and use a non-alcoholic tequila OR a spash of club soda or sparkling water.
  • Strawberry Mango Margaritas: Reduce the frozen mango in the recipe to 1 cup and add 1 cup of frozen strawberries. Puree and serve!
